Estrogen Deficiency Symptoms

By Jake Alexandre

The most common initial problem in women with low estrogen levels are disruptions in the normal menstrual cycle. Women may begin to experience highly irregular cycles or their cycles may stop altogether. Women under the age of 40 may suffer from early menopause and experience all the normal menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes, vaginal dryness and episodes of night sweats. If the estrogen deficiency occurs in young women who have not begun their menstrual cycle, their menstruation and development of the secondary sex characteristics may be severely delayed. Estrogen is produced primarily in the ovaries. Some estrogen is produced by the adrenal glands. Signals for estrogen production come from the pituitary gland, and levels vary throughout life depending on the stage of a woman's menstrual cycle. Estrogen is the hormone that provides female characteristics for women.

Estrogen is the main female reproductive hormone. This is the ovarian hormones which all have similar characteristics. During the female menstruation cycle, the production of estrogen is controlled by the hormone LH (Luteinizing Hormone) both indirectly and directly. Estrogen acts and plays part in female fertility and purposely in ovulation. Estrogen is the dominant hormone in the first half of the menstrual cycle and continues to play a part throughout the second half as well. If a woman is victim of estrogen imbalance and experiencing Estrogen deficiency symptoms such as hot flashes, headaches, night sweats and vaginal dryness may occur. If estrogen is low, the normal feedback mechanisms of the hypothalamus and pituitary do not function causing an imbalance in the natural menstruation cycle. In such women the lining of the uterus is scant and not hospitable to a pregnancy. More often than not, in these women, ovulation may not occur at all.

There are some external causes of low Estrogen, such as living in highly polluted environment, genetically modified food, some of the most common low estrogen symptoms in women are gynecological problems such as infertility, miscarriage, period disturbances, and polycystic ovarian syndrome and so on. There could be Estrogen deficiency symptoms relating emotional and psychological functions to such as anxiety, depression, mood swings, and memory problems.

The most common Estrogen deficiency symptoms in younger women are lack of menstruation and delayed development. Younger women, under age 40, with low estrogen can experience early menopause resulting in hot flashes and night sweats. Fatigue is a common complaint associated the condition. Women report forgetfulness, insomnia, lack of sexual desire and painful intercourse when estrogen levels are low or begin to decline. Irregular menstruation or lack of menstruation occurs. Bladder infections and headaches might occur. Mood changes that lead to crying, feelings of depression and irritability are also symptoms. Bone loss also occurs that leads to osteoporosis. Inability to become pregnant can signal low estrogen levels in younger women. Constant fatigue, irritability, insomnia, anxiety, nervousness and night sweats can contribute as Estrogen deficiency symptoms.

If estrogen is low, the normal feedback mechanisms of the hypothalamus and pituitary do not function causing an imbalance in the natural menstruation cycle. Declining FSH level is also low estrogen symptom. Estrogen levels can be elevated by a low-carb diet that is abundant in mineral supplements, by adding protein and zinc this will also elevate estrogen levels.
