The Fastest Way To Lose Weight.

By Nigel Gittens

The fastest way to lose weight is on the minds of the majority of Americans as 67% of them are considered overweight. This overweight or obesity problem is particularly acute amongst young adults where statistics show that the numbers have tripled in the past ten years. With this prevalence there is a noticeable increase in chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure particularly among the young. To defeat this national problem requires a national response that is both resolute and based on common sense. Nothing less will treat with this burgeoning problem.

Six million deaths are anticipated annually arising from obesity and these deaths are entirely preventable. Obesity is caused by the overconsumption of sugar, salt and fat. The overconsumption of sugar causes our blood sugar levels to spike and this leads to damage of our internal organs. These spikes should not only concern the diabetic person but also the normal person. Sugar and salt should only be consumed when it is part of natural foods such as fruits and vegetables and not from manufactured sources such as manufactured juices and foods.

Currently one-fifth of all men and one-third of women are engaged in dieting. There is an over-abundance of television diet advertisements within recent times. The success rates of the weight loss diets are doubtful at best, simply because the very foods that are causing the obesity in the first place are being offered. These failing diets are causing much anxiety and depression among participants who blame themselves for lack of discipline and self control.

It is estimated that thirty years of one's life is engaged in dieting if you are obese. There are three reasons for obesity not necessarily connected to the individual. The first is the preponderance of food advertisements that we are flooded with, which sinks into our psyche to purchase and consume these foods if not now at a later date. Secondly it has been recently acknowledged that manufactured sugar and salt are as addictive as any narcotic drug. This can be confirmed when we deprive ourselves of same with the consequent withdrawal symptoms of depressions and mood swings.

There are no such addictive qualities when sugar and salt are consumed in their natural states as in fruits and vegetable. The third reason for this phenomenon of obesity is that 50% of meals are consumed in restaurants and fast food outlets and not at home. When foods are consumed outside, there is no control over the content and the same lack of control is seen when we purchase at supermarkets where processed foods are offered by and large.

The obesity problem can be overcome firstly with the recognition that the consumption of manufactured sugar and salt are the main cause of the problem. The fastest way to lose weight can easily occur if we consume natural foods that are full of natural sugar and salt. This policy coupled with a more active lifestyle will defeat the obesity epidemic that we currently have.
