Hair Advice to Perfect Your Hair

By Jim Jawnson

Your hair is your crowning glory. Look after it and it will shine for all the world to see. You don't always need expensive treatments, or visits to a hair salon to manage your hair professionally or have the best hair color you can possible have. There's so much you can do yourself.

For the healthy shine, remember that your hair is directly dependent on your nutrition. When you eat well and stick to a nutritious, balanced diet, your hair will glow. No shampoo or conditioner can replicate that healthy look perfectly. Make it a goal to drink at least eight glasses of water per day, because your hair will reflect your level of hydration.

Your hair is more delicate than you think. Do you notice the broken strands after you pull it into a ponytail, or after yanking it with a comb? When you've just showered, your hair needs a gentle touch. Try using an absorbent towel to dry it, and rub gently if you must. Avoid hair dryers, straighteners, curlers, and hot rollers if possible. The heat from these objects can dry your hair out excessively, leaving it damaged over time.

If you begin noticing split ends, or trichoptlosis, consider cutting it yourself. Follow these steps: Take a small amount of hair and twist it gently downward. You'll see the split ends standing out from the rest. Use a pair of sharp scissors to cut a small amount diagonally, giving texture to your hair while removing the split ends. Repeat the step on other small sections of hair until all of your split ends are gone.

Split ends seem to be always causing tangles, but here's a trick to help you remove them: gather a small bunch of hair and twist it downwards. You'll be able to see the split ends standing apart. Take some scissors and cut into the twisted section at an angle. Repeat the steps on other sections of hair, and cut about the same amount. You'll end up with a natural layered look, free of split ends!

When you notice your hair is thinning, you'll need to act against your hair loss through good nutrition. Consider taking biotin, which can regenerate hair follicles. You can make a smoothie from bananas, yogurt, honey, and low-fat milk, which will give you the minerals and nutrients to encourage hair growth and strength. Other vitamins such as zinc, saw palmetto, and vitamin B6 can also boost growth. Aside from nutrition, take steps to lower your stress level and get more sleep.

Each of the steps above will make a positive difference to your hair and overall health. Taking care of yourself will reflect in your appearance, and you'll make a better impression than ever before. It's up to you to have best at home hair color, health.
