Dentistry has been around for a very long time now and over the years it has continued to develop gradually. It is now at the stage where treatments are very quick and simple and where treatment is in most cases completely pain free. Like most industries though dentistry is going to continue to develop to become faster, cheaper and even better than it already is. This might be with new methods or new equipment but the changes are already being put in place.
One very important change which has already started to happen but will be a large part of dentistry in the future is what is known as Eco-Dentistry. Eco-Dentistry is almost self-explanatory and is the initiative set to make the dentistry industry a lot more eco-friendly. At the moment the industry produces far too much waste and pollution but Eco-Dentistry will help dentists to implement various ways to cut down on their waste materials and energy used.
There has also been some speculation that dentist drills will be replaced with a very powerful and very accurate spray tool. It will spray silica or sand and will be able to cut and shape teeth extremely accurately so that they can be filled. This is likely to be accompanied by a plasma jet which will be a painless way for getting rid of bacteria which cause tooth decay.
Until fairly recently nanotechnology was not really a feasible process likely to happen in the next few years but now it is very real. The process involves manipulating matter at an atomic and molecular level and although the technology is still under development it is believed that it won't be long before it is being used to fill teeth and maybe even create artificial ones too.
There are also numerous other potential developments in dentistry and changes are happening all the time. Recently it was revealed that alcohol based mouthwashes might be bad for a person's oral health and so there is a high likelihood that a replacement for these is already under development to be released very soon.
