The thing about loosing a few pounds is that you need to burn more calories than you consume on a daily basis, sounds simple, so what are the reasons why weight loss seems so hard for some people.

Losing weight is a battle that many people have to fight on a daily basis. For some the pounds come off just as easily as it went on. For others, it is a daily struggle and a constant battle with yourself and all those evil yet delicious foods. There are many reasons why shedding a few pounds seems so hard, maybe if you can figure out what your reason is it will make the journey a little easier.

Unfortunately for many and most people, dieting usually takes more than a little bit of exercise a couple of times a week. It involves a lot of self discipline and personal commitment to the long term goal. You have to commit to not just a menu change but to a lifestyle change.

So why do some people have a harder time with weight loss than others? Well one reason is age. Younger people are more resilient and tend to bounce back quicker. Your metabolism works faster when you are younger and this makes getting into shape a little easier. We all tend to put of a little extra padding as we age and because we do not metabolize food as quickly as we did in our teens, we have to work a little harder to keep the pounds off.

Your genetic makeup also plays a large part in your body fat percentage and your fight with keeping trims. Take a look at your parents, if they are constantly having to watch what they eat and exercise regularly then chances are you should be doing the same thing.

When you first set out on a healthy living challenge, make sure that you set goals. Make sure that your goals are realistic and achievable. Setting goals that are too high will only deter you from actually reaching them. You have to know without a doubt that you can achieve what you set out to do. Once you have done this, the rest will seem a lot easier.

The biggest problem for many people trying to trim down is their love for food. People love to eat. We need food to survive so it is not something you can simply cut out. Learning to change your eating habits and give up things that you love so much is one of the hardest things.

The next hardest thing for most people is changing your daily routine to fit in some sort of physical activity. If you are new to the whole exercise thing then it can be tough. Getting into a new work out and healthy living regime is a hard task. Take it slow and it will eventually get easier.

Getting into shape is easier if you are not doing it alone. Get your family and friends behind you, rope them into doing the exercising with you. Join classes at your local gym and find people who are fighting the same battles as you are. You will find yourself giving more and getting more if you have people helping you along the way.
