Health is the essence of life. So, making right decisions regarding your health is something that really matters. There are several dimensions related to your health which need to be evaluated regularly and require precautionary measures accordingly. Your age is one of these important dimensions. As you age, you are confronted with various challenges and risk factors regarding your health also tend to increase.

This therapy is applied in order to restore the hormonal level in the body. It helps to attain the optimal levels of hormones. Typically, estrogen and progesterone are dealt with in this kind of treatment. These two hormones are found in women and are responsible for various changes in a female body. The hormone therapy (HT) is called ERT when it only deals with estrogen levels in a woman. The term turns to HRT when both of estrogen and progesterone levels are concerned.

Hormone therapy is found to be effective in many cases especially in treatment of menopause and breast cancer in women. Several evidences revealed that it may also be effective in treating other diseases such as macular degeneration, vision loss with age or colon cancer etc. Among these, menopause and breast cancer are the diseases which women are suffering commonly from. Menopause is a transition phase in a woman's life when menstruation stops and she becomes unable to bear child. Estrogen and progesterone levels are lowered down. This change in turn leads to many other symptoms like, sleep disturbances, laziness, hot flashes, vaginal dryness or even bone loss (osteoporosis). In such conditions hormonal therapy may prove to be beneficial in reducing these symptoms effectively and safely.

The second common disease found in women is breast cancer. HT is also effective in cancer treatment. The hormone-receptor positive cancer is said to be effectively treated by hormone therapy. The nature and procedure of treatment however may vary depending upon several factors. For instance, breast cancer stage, menopausal status, medical history of patient and bone density etc. The length of the therapy also depends upon the stage and severity of disease. You can also be recommended a combination of different hormonal therapies in case if the cancer stops to respond to a single therapy medicine.

As every coin has two sides, HT also comes with certain side-effects along with all the benefits it offers. But you can freely go through it if you have done a thorough medical checkup and have consulted properly with your pharmacist before deciding to have hormonal therapy.
