Is it Possible to Lose Those Extra Pounds on a Treadmill?

By Joshua Mathiason

It is a widely known fact that treadmills are rated by studies as the best equipment-based strategy for using up calories and initiating an efficient weight-loss regimen. Recently we have seen a debate developing among industry experts putting forth the point that elliptical machines have a slight edge on that issue, but the treadmill continues to be the number one choice for rehab, conditioning and research, and remains decisively rated as the top machine available.

While there's no doubt one can utilize a treadmill effectively to shed some pounds, it's quite clear that not all people experience the same results. This is a very important point and if you are planning on using a treadmill to shed some weight there definitely are some things you ought to know achieve success.

1. Exercise Often Enough

If you are not climbing up on that treadmill often enough, you cannot expect to lose any pounds. There is not any speculation at work here. At the Duke University Hospital, they commissioned an analysis which indicated you will need to get in twenty miles of jogging per week to begin to shed some pounds. According to their statistical data, jogging twelve miles per week will allow you to maintain your current weight, but at that level you can't expect to lose any. If you are jogging at a speed of six mph, twenty miles will be around three and a half hours of running on the treadmill, so you can do that in a half hour every day. That's not so hard.

An important consideration for maintaining consistency is having a treadmill that you enjoy using. If you're shopping for one, read a lot of treadmill reviews.

2. Exercise Moderately

The Mayo hospital has also provided a lot of research into exercise and tells us that moderate-intensity workouts provide the most useful route to weight loss. The recipe is pretty simple. If you aren't pushing yourself at all, you will not get enough exertion to benefit you, and if you are overdoing it, you'll end up out and cramping up, which can make it unlikely that you'll stick it out thru the week. There's a great way to determine the intensity of your workout. You should be able have a conversation while working out, but you need to be too winded to sing. If those two conditions are met, you are engaged in a moderate-intensity workout.

3. Eat Right

You may not lose pounds with your treadmill programme if your diet is not healthy. The ideal you need to struggle toward is to get rid of packaged foods altogether and eat plenty of whole, unprocessed foods. The closer you come to achieving this, the more effective your weight loss program will be. Lots of my clients have complained that they cannot lose weight irrespective of what they do, and all I need to do is open their kitchen cupboards and point at the difficulty.

4. Water

An important part of eating right is providing your body with good hydration. This will promote weight loss and also help you in maintaining longer and more predictable workouts. When your body is dehydrated you may tire fast and not be in a position to keep a good pace in your jogging. If you over-consume water it can work against you. For most folks, eight ounces of water each twenty minutes is enough.

Keep these simple points in mind and you'll be amazed at how quickly you can achieve your weight loss goals.
