Many women experience an increase in weight gain when they start to go through menopause. Unlike typical weight gain menopause weight gain happens in specific places. It is the thighs and the waist that see the largest weight gain when a woman goes through menopause. This usually causes the woman's waistline to disappear. Most women hate the idea of gaining weight. When the weight piles on in these places, however, it can be especially hard to deal with. If you find that you are gaining weight only in these areas, especially if you don't typically gain weight here, you might think about seeing your doctor. You might be going through menopause.

For some women menopause will act very much like a pregnancy. One of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy that is also present in many menopausal women is extreme fatigue. A woman going through menopause is likely to feel what is called "crashing" fatigue. Just feeling a little tired does not fit the criteria for crashing fatigue. The kind of exhaustion that will keep her in bed for more than a few hours. A woman experiencing this type of fatigue will require more sleep than she's ever needed before, perhaps during the height of her day. If your partner is suddenly sleeping longer hours or experiencing difficulty waking up consult a physcian to determine whether she is going through menopause.

This might sound weird, but lots of women say that their natural scents and smells start to change when they start going through menopause. For some of these women it is this change in smell that alerted them to their menopausal state. A change in odor is a very difficult menopause symptom to notice. All the same, if a woman in your life suddenly starts to smell different (and is not using a new soap, deoderant or perfume) this might be a sign of menopause.
