More and more people, especially adults, are seeking various kinds of Sciatica treatment for extreme lower back pains. But before receiving any kind of sciatic treatment, it's important to know what sciatica is and what are its possible causes. The sciatic nerve begins from the lumbar spinal cord, which then extend to the lower extremities such as the buttock, legs, and feet, making it the largest nerve in the body.

A bulging or ruptured disc, also known as herniated discs, once it presses against the sciatic nerves, causes intense pain, which is a major symptom of sciatica. Other causes of sciatica include any other disturbance and pressure placed on any point of the sciatic nerves and this includes tumors, pregnancy, arthritis, and the like.

Before going for any kind of sciatic treatment, it's first important to identify which exact symptoms a patient is suffering from. This is because the different sciatic treatments vary depending on the symptoms and its root cause. The most common and most noticeable symptoms of sciatica are lower back pains, which causes a burning sensation, numbness, and possible tingling feeling which runs through the lower back down to the legs and feet.

Such leg, lower back, and hip pains can make walking and other bodily movements difficult, if not impossible. Most of the time such movements such as sitting or standing for a long time, and other movements that cause the spine to flex may also worsen the symptoms.

Proper check-up and diagnosis must be immediately be received once these symptoms are felt. The patient must not hesitate or delay going to the doctor in order to receive immediate attention and sciatica treatment depending on their need.

Proper exercise, stretching, and even physical therapy are the starting points of sciatica treatment. However, due to the sensitivity of some sciatica cases, proper medical recommendation should be given before proceeding to any kind of physical rehabilitation. Some cases of sciatica are allowed to be self-rehabilitated or the patient is allowed to do it on their own, while physical therapy requires assistance and guide of professional therapists.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs are the recommended kind of sciatica treatment drugs. These include acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil), or naproxen (Aleve). These are the only kind of drugs recommended to ease inflammation of sciatic nerves, as other kinds of drugs may worsen sciatica.

Once all other sciatica treatments have been tried and proved to be not effective and of no help to the person suffering sciatica, the patient may opt for surgery as the last resort. In surgeries targeting sciatica, a portion of the bone or any structure that is pressing against the sciatic nerve and putting immense pressure on it is removed to relieve the person of the pain immediately.

Before resorting to any kind of sciatic treatment, it is important to have a proper diagnosis of the severity and the location of the damaged sciatic nerve. Second opinions are also encouraged so as not to be misdiagnosed.
